Welcome to the Vancouver Quadra Liberal website. We are now ready to build connections with our membership, our neighbours and our fellow citizens of Vancouver Quadra.
It’s an exciting time to be a Quadra Liberal.
We are planning events throughout the year and would be delighted to have you participate. Please take this opportunity to join our mailing list so we can keep you informed. To join the list – email outreach@quadraliberals.ca
You may be someone who has voted Liberal in the past, but has never come out to a political event. Or maybe you have generally supported another party or have never voted before. Regardless, we welcome you on board. What’s important is that like-minded people put aside minor differences and work together for the greater good of Canada. We believe that the Liberal party is the vehicle to make that happen, for the benefit of all Canadians.
We look forward to hearing from you. Together, we can offer Canadians a strong and credible alternative to Stephen Harper’s Conservatives.
Wishing you all the best,
Andrew Wilkinson

Vancouver, B.C. (October 18, 2009) – Residents of Vancouver Quadra will have the opportunity to hear for the third time why Deborah Meredith would like to represent them. Vancouver Quadra Conservatives nominated Meredith last night. Meredith has been defeated by Vancouver Quadra MP and Opposition Critic for Amateur Sport and the Vancouver Olympics Joyce Murray in the March 2008 by-election and the October 2008 general election.
“While residents in Vancouver Quadra have twice made a statement that they don’t want Meredith and the Conservatives to represent them.” says Vancouver Quadra MP Joyce Murray, “I’m a great believer in the democratic process and welcome Deborah Meredith to Vancouver Quadra’s next election.”
Murray continues: “Quadra constituents don’t believe that the cuts made by Stephen Harper’s Conservatives to higher education, research and development were in the country’s best interest. They don’t believe that Harper boycotting the Beijing Olympics and snubbing our trading partner China is in Canada’s best interests. These values are simply not the values in Vancouver Quadra.”
Murray is available for media interviews to discuss the nomination of Vancouver Quadra Conservative candidate Deborah Meredith.

Stephen Harper Stains Canada’s International Reputation, Again
Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon meet in Washington amid a diplomatic row between Canada and Mexico. Typical relationship building by Stephen Harper’s Conservatives.
Recently, Stephen Harper’s Conservatives announced that travellers from Mexico and the Czech Republic will need visas to enter Canada. Mexico has retaliated against Canada for imposing these visa restrictions, saying Canadian officials and diplomats will need visas to enter Mexico. In addition, Czech officials promptly recalled their ambassador and applied visa restrictions on Canadian diplomats. They also urged the European Union to require visas from Canadians entering all 27 EU countries.
The heart of the problem stems from Canada’s rules for allowing immigrants and refugees in. After years of neglect by both parties, the system needs an overhaul so that honest, hard working people, from all nations, have the opportunity to make a better life for themselves and contribute to the living energy of our cultural mosaic.
Not to mention the tens of thousands of Mexican and Czech tourists that come to Canada each year. Memo to Stephen Harper: WE’RE IN A RECESSION. Many businesses have commented that the visa requirements will have an immediate and detrimental impact. The Canadian tourism industry says that the requirement will especially hurt tourism from Mexico. Last year alone, 266,000 tourists from Mexico visited Canada.
So, instead of acknowledging that Canada’s immigration and refugee system needs to be fixed, and taking the necessary steps to do that, Stephen Harper’s Conservatives have dismissed the issue, effectively saying that it’s Mexico and the Czech Republic’s problem now. Stephen Harper has systematically failed to fill vacancies on the Immigration and Refugee Board, which has led to a processing backlog.
Memo #2 to Stephen Harper: Leadership requires hard decisions and the power to make things happen. Once again, Stephen Harper demonstrates his LACK of leadership.
On July 16, 2009, Columnist Jeffrey Simpson of The Globe and Mail wrote:
The cost of this visa system is large to taxpayers, what with the bureaucracy required – to say nothing of the inconvenience for people legitimately trying to travel to Canada.
Friendly countries on whose nationals Canada imposes visas are understandably disappointed, furious, annoyed. The Czechs, with whom Canada enjoys (or did) excellent relations, withdrew their ambassador this week, a classic diplomatic sign of protest.
Insisting on visas essentially says to friendly countries we don’t trust you.
How would you feel, as a Mexican or a Czech, if you got that message from Canada? That’s the message we’re sending politically to these countries, and to some others in the visa category. We’re sending that message because we can’t control our borders properly.
We get a black eye in other countries. We risk fouling up bilateral relations. We incur large costs in money, time and bureaucracy. We get big backlogs in the system. We have no one to blame but ourselves.
